Doug is the founder and CEO of PortageBay, a sustainability analytics company. The mission: provide tools driven by AI that enable investors to reorient capital towards more sustainable outcomes, while generating superior returns. He's an industry-leading expert in integrating ESG and AI into financial institutions.

Prior to PortageBay, Doug was Managing Director, Global Head of AI at BlackRock. He led programs to develop AI investment applications that combine fundamental and systematic investing. His platform meaningfully contributed to 12 consecutive quarters of improved investment performance and new asset inflows totaling $272 billion. Prior to BlackRock, Doug had a 20 year career as a portfolio manager at Fidelity, Perry Capital and Amaranth. At Fidelity, Doug co-founded Fidelity’s big data group and was a founding member of the Hong Kong office.

Doug serves on the IFRS Taxonomy Board, teaches at Harvard Business School, and is an advisory board member for the quantitative finance program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He earned his MBA at Stanford Business School, BSc in electrical engineering and BA in economics at Queen’s University, and attended Singularity University.
